Jose Pineda, M.Sc., is the founder and senior consultant of Miami-based Anthropologie Consulting; a travel agency and consulting group that specializes in the design and execution of cultural and educational programs.
Born and educated in his native country of Cuba, Mr. Pineda is an avid traveler with vast experience in the world of tourism. With over 15 years of travel experience, Mr. Pineda has successfully led over 100 (and counting) American delegations to Cuba.
Before establishing Anthropologie Consulting, Mr. Pineda worked as a travel guide overseeing the American delegations that traveled to Cuba. Later, he would work as a travel agent with Transnico International, where he coordinated the day-to-day operations of the agency’s American market.
In conjunction with his involvement with Cuba’s tourism industry, Mr. Pineda was also actively involved in the struggles and challenges the LGBT community was facing in Cuba. He worked as the co-producer of the Gay Cuba documentary, which depicts the daily challenges this community faces.
Currently, Mr. Pineda is based in Miami, FL, where he teaches English and Reading to young immigrants, primarily from Cuba, who have recently arrived in the United States.
He has been a faculty at Carlos Albizu University and Florida International University, teaching diverse education and cross-cultural communication classes.
Mr. Pineda is an analytical observer of the Cuban culture and is currently working on two articles for his his doctorate program: a Cuban Reader for Americans – an analysis of US and Cuban media treatment of Cuban and American issues; and Over the Bridge: Cuba and the USA – a discussion of (mis)conceptions, (mis)representations, and culture shock on both sides of the Florida Straits.
